Get To Know Your IEB: Jacob and Evan

Editors’ Note: On our next installment of the Achshav’s IEB Q and A’s series, we get to learn about Chicago’s favorite son. No, it’s not Kanye West, It’s everyone’s favorite International Membership and Kadima Vice President Jacob Kline as he tells you about what he does when he’s not convincing you to come to a wonderful event, or helping you find your sheep.

Name, region, chapter, position, and any other information you would like to share: Hi there! My name is Jacob Kline, I’m from the CHUSY (Chicago USY) Region, specifically SHMUSY (Anshe Emet USY)! I love making friends, playing board games (my favorite right now is Munchkin), and engineering new ways to get things done. I participate in theater and really love musicals. My favorite ice breaker question is “If half of your body was one animal, what would it be and which half of your body would it be on, and why?” And my answer is that I would want to be part cheetah, and I would want it to be on my lower half. What animal would you want to be half of?

What is your favorite food and why? My favorite food is definitely Shawarma. I don’t know why I like it so much, but every time I eat it, it’s always so good. Does this mean that I’m the best at finding good restaurants? Yes. Will I take you if you ask me to? Also yes.

What was your favorite convention and why? My favorite convention is 100% Kadima Konvention 2018. I was able to co-chair it with 3 other close friends and it was absolutely incredible to be able to see the future generation of USY so willing to get engaged and to be connected.

What was your inspiration to run for your board position on the international executive board? My inspiration to run for the International Executive Board (IEB) was and still is the feeling I get when I see fellow USYers bringing new people in to experience all of the things I love – it gives me real hope for the future of USY.

What is your favorite activity other than USY? My favorite activity, other than USY, is… theater!! I really enjoy both acting on stage, and working on crew behind the scenes. Musicals are my favorite, but I do love a good play. My favorite musical is Legally Blonde because I think it’s a great example of when you work really hard, and put your mind to something, you can do anything!! Oh and also the soundtrack is super super good (AKA super super tree!)

What is your favorite song at the moment? My favorite song right now is 3 Nights by Dominic Fike. I can’t remember why it got stuck in my head, but I think it’s really good and I’ve listened to it many more times than I care to admit over the past few days…

What is your one recommendation for any aspiring board member? To anyone who is aspiring to be a board member, I’d recommend talking to not only the board member you’d like to succeed, but to other board members as well, and ask questions about the time commitment, responsibilities, what they want to accomplish, how you can turn your ideas into a reality. As well as other questions you come up with, and use their answers to make a choice of what you want to do. Communication is key, so don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m always available to talk about anything – USY/not USY related – so if you want to reach out, please do! My email is [email protected] :).

Editors’ Note: Do you ever wonder what the Communication Vice President, Evan Siegel does besides making Tik Toks or always making his peers smile? Well, you don’t need to wonder anymore!! To the final introduction to the ieb, we have the Comm king himself, telling us why he is a COMMtastic person!!!

Name, region, chapter, position, and any other information you would like to share: Hey there! My name is Evan Siegel. I’m from the thriving region of HaNer USY – specifically from the best chapter ever, Westport USY! (seriously, we rock) and I am serving as the 2020 International Communications Vice President!

What is your favorite food and why? I love anything Italian or anything hearty. I don’t really have a favorite food I just like to eat!

What was your favorite convention and why? Every year I get super excited to attend HaNer’s Leadership Convention. I love this weekend because HaNer really comes together as a family and we all have a lot of fun together. It gets super sentimental and you can really see new leaders emerge. Also on Saturday night at midnight, the region starts a dodgeball torment where we split up into teams by position and it gets crazy!

Inspiration(s): I wouldn’t say I have one specific inspiration. My goals in life and who I am have been shaped by many people from back home in school, in the workroom for theatre, and by the lake at my summer sleep away camp, Camp Tel Noar.

What is your favorite activity other than USY? Aside from hanging out with my friends, I am a part of my school’s theatre program. I love to work with my friends to build awesome sets and put on a great production. I also like to drive around with my friends and eat junk food.

What is your favorite song at the moment? I can’t pick just one song, so I’m going to say a couple! Some songs I’m really into right now are “Supalonely” By BENEE, “Simple”, By Florida Georgia Line, and anything By Bazzi.

What is your one recommendation for any aspiring board member? My one big piece of advice for anyone who wants to be a leader in the world is to always think about the future. Have one big goal and break it down into smaller goals to accomplish it. Once you have that idea in mind, ride with it, and see where that determination takes you. I would also say be open-minded and think large. A good leader is someone who wants to take initiative and someone who thinks big. Don’t be afraid to take risks and be encouraged to work with other people even if they are different from you.
