About: Teen Leadership Council (TLC)

The TLC will serve as an advisory body to the USY International Executive Board (IEB). The TLC will meet once per month over Zoom to discuss current ideas and programs that are being developed, work on select initiatives and programs, and represent the needs of USYers who are not currently served by an adult professional and/or elected peers. The USY President will lead the TLC and be responsible for scheduling meetings, follow up with members, and bring the work of the TLC to the IEB for implementation. There will also be leadership training and education opportunities for TLC members, supported by Rabbi Ilan Schwartz, USY Director of Leadership Development.

The deadline to apply is Friday, May 29 at 5pm local time. Acceptance to the TLC will be on a rolling basis. Decisions will be made by the USY President and Director of Leadership Development.

Please note the following:

– Members of the TLC will serve one year terms (with the possibility to reapply)
– Any rising 9th-12th grader can apply
– Preference will be given to applicants from underserved geographic areas
– While not mandatory, we encourage every TLC applicant to attend LTI at Camp Ramah in Palmer, MA from August 28-30, 2026. There will be a set time for the TLC to meet during the weekend if enough members attend.

Israel Committee

The Israel commitee will work with the Programming VP to develop strategies for engaging USYers with Israel on a wider scale. This includes sharing news and information, advocacy, program ideas, and encouraging USYers to visit Israel through USY programs. When selected, committee members will meet with the Programming VP to develop goals, deadlines, and choose the project(s) they will focus on through the end of the school year.

SA/TO Committee

In the coming year, the Social Action/Tikun Olam Committee will work to expand the understanding and involvement of Social Action and Tikun Olam on the international level to as many people as possible. They will work closely with the Programming VP to develop programs and initiatives that engage USYers in community service and fundraising. When selected, committee members will meet with the Programming VP to develop goals, deadlines, and choose the project(s) they will focus on through the end of the school year. 

Jewish Life Committee

In this position, you will be help develop and share opportunities for Jewish learning and growth to USYers. You will also work on initiatives that engage USYers with Jewish culture, holidays, ideas, and how USY chapters can focus on them. They will work closely with the Jewish Life VP to shape the culture around prayer and learning at USY conventions, and give USYers the tools to bring this culture to their chapters. When selected, committee members will meet with the Jewish Life VP to develop goals, deadlines, and choose the project(s) they will focus on through the end of the school year. 

Outreach Committee

In the coming year, USY needs to continue evolving the ways in which we welcome new participants and encourage them to join chapters and participate in regional/community events. This committee will work to ensure that our engagement strategy is relevant, that USY leaders at all levels have the tools necessary for successful outreach and engagement, and that we have a strong sense of who the USY community is. Committee members will work closely with the Outreach VP and USY professional staff to shape this vision and put it into action. When selected, committee members will meet with the Outreach VP to develop goals, deadlines, and choose the project(s) they will focus on through the end of the school year. 

Communications Committee

The Communications committee will be tasked with spreading the message of what USY is and how it can positively impact teen Jewish life. Whether through storytelling, marketing, or creating connection through social media, the ways we stay in toich with USYers between events, in big and small communities, and even after USY, is crucial to the success of the organization. This committee will work closely with the Communications VP and USCJ marketing professionals to ensure that the messaging, communication platforms, and marketing strategy is relevant and accessible to all teens.  When selected, committee members will meet with the Communications VP to develop goals, deadlines, and choose the project(s) they will focus on through the end of the school year.
