Editor’s Note: Hi Everyone! It’s Sam here. I hope everyone is able to find some good throughout their time being quarantined. Especially during this time, it is important that everyone takes care of their mental health, just as my co-coordinator, Amelia does. I’m really proud of her, and most definitely inspired by her story. And I know for certain that you too will be inspired, after you read her blog post.
Hi, USY! My name is Amelia Tehrani, and I am one of your 2020 Achshav Blog Coordinators. Today, I’m here to talk to you about mental health. If you attended IC SoCal, you may remember me and my story. I was able to give a USY Talk during which I discussed how I was able to get out of the darkest time in my life. If you weren’t there, or you want a refresher, take a few minutes to watch my USY Talk.
The reason I chose today, April 23, 2020, to discuss mental health on the blog, is because today marks 731 days of happiness for me – two years! This day is a big deal for me because I learned that I do have a place in life and how I matter to others and how everyone matters to one another.
I want you all to know – you are amazing the way you are. Throughout my journey, I have learned that we are all human. We all have flaws, and we all make mistakes… but our flaws are what make us stand out. Like Hannah Montana said, “nobody’s perfect.”
Now I would like to talk about life. Life is a crazy adventure that has so many ups and downs. It’s a roller coaster, it’s one bumpy ride, but it’s all worth it. Previously, I never wanted my life to have those ups and downs – I always wanted life to just stay at the same level at all times. But now, I know that you cannot live life without those ups and downs. As much as we all want to live perfect and easy lives, the truth is there will be those ups and downs, and as people, we have to learn how to accept them – and grow from them.
Right now there is a lot going on in our world, and everything feels a little bit different and out of sorts, but I want everyone to remember to stay positive. Throughout my journey, I learned that staying positive is important, and so is taking time to relax. The world around us may feel scary and weird at the current moment, but I want you all to know that so many people are here to support you. Make sure you take time to catch up with your loved ones – we all need some human connection right now! In these times, it’s important to focus not only on physical wellness, but also mental wellness. If you ever need someone to talk to – I am happy to be someone in your life. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my thoughts. I also want to thank my family, friends, and USY for always being there for me and for always supporting me no matter what! These past two years have been two of the best years of my life, and I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without your support. I encourage everyone to stay positive, and seek the light at the end of the tunnel, and remember it’s okay to not be okay.
