B12: Yad L'Kashish
Elderly of all walks of life, from many countries and backgrounds, come to Yad L'Kashish and learn to make beautiful crafts, like tallitot, tzedakah boxes, scarves and more. They are paid for their art, which is sold in a well-known gift shop to support continuing the work. Yad L'Kashish is more than just a workplace, though. It's a social center, a way to get health care and a place of comfort for the men and women that work there. While they otherwise might not have left their apartments, Yad L'Kashish keeps them active, gives them a place to go, one that offers transportation, hot lunch programs and educational field trips.
If creating a safe and useful space for the elderly of Jerusalem, many of whom were around during the founding days of Israel, and new immigrants, who are mostly escaping persecution in hostile countries, is important to you, consider allocating your funds to Yad L'Kashish.
