Allocations Awareness

C7: National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association
The National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association (NTSAD) is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of Tay-Sachs, Canavan, and related childhood genetic diseases in addition to providing information and support services to individuals and families affected by these diseases. The strategies that NTSAD uses to achieve these goals include public and professional education, family services, genetic screening, research, and advocacy. Each year, NTSAD holds a Family Conference (the one in 2005 was their 27th – most likely the oldest gathering to assist those affected by genetic diseases). At this conference, NTSAD provides information and unparalleled support to parents, their families, and even adults with the Late Onset Tay-Sachs disease. To make sure that this all gets done, the Conference provides Helping Hand Grants, Childcare, an Affected Children's Room, a Healthy Siblings' Room, and a Sibling Workshop.

If you have an interest in Jewish genetic diseases or if you/someone in your family/someone you know has been personally affected by one, you should seek further information about NTSAD. It may end up being the organization to which your chapter decides to allocate its 40% of allocationable funds.
