C5: Israel Cancer Research Fund
The Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) is the only organization in the United States that is exclusively devoted to supporting cancer research in Israel. Israel has the world's greatest concentration of scientists/physicians, but because of extremely high security costs as well as other pressing needs, there are insufficient funds to help sponsor their research projects; the ICRF therefore seeks to aid their research. Furthermore, a strong, basic research program helps build a vibrant economy, so when a research project forwards the researcher's career, their workplaces are strengthened, and it ultimately has a dynamic effect on Israel's economy. Israel has the ability to make significant contributions to world's fight against cancer and the ICRF makes this ability even more prevalent. Since its beginning in 1975, the ICRF has provided about 1413 grants, totaling at almost $28 million, to outstanding researchers whose laboratories are located in leading scientific research institutions, universities, and hospitals across Israel.
If cancer research is a cause near and dear to your heart, you should look into the ICRF. Also, if you want your chapter's Tikun Olam money to not only help the world's fight against cancer, but also the economy of Israel, you should definitely consider allocating the money your chapter has raised this year to the ICRF.
