Allocations Awareness

E2: Committee for Ethiopian Jews in Tzfat
19-year-old Etti Tasma and her husband have two young children. Her husband's ability to work is limited as a result of a road accident. Her family came from Ethiopia in 1999, and she married in Israel when she was 16. Etti was a young mother in high school but she was determined to succeed and last year after she finished high school, she completed her matriculation examinations (prerequisite for college). She would like to get like to get her college degree. This year USY donated the money she needed to get into college and pay for childcare.

Etti is just one of the many people helped by the Committee for Ethiopian Jews in Tzfat. Over 750 Ethiopian Jews have now settled in the Safed area in Northern Israel. The committee has been instrumental in the absorption and resettlement process. They provide for basic needs such as winter clothing, and also educational and recreational needs, such as computer equipment, new playgrounds and summer camp scholarships.
