F1: AHVA
Nestled in Indian's vast population is a Jewish community just under the 5,000 mark, scattered throughout the country. These communities are made up of labor and lower middle class families with low incomes compared to the Indian Standard, creating a feeling of 'charity begins at home.' AHVA seeks to bring together the younger generation, with programming like religious summer camps and trips to village synagogues. AHVA also works to maintain the day-to-day expenses, things as small as oil for their Ner Tamidim and other religious expenses. Many synagogues cannot get a minyan on a regular basis, but they make certain to gather for High Holidays. AHVA writes, at community gatherings, "a spirit of cordiality and oneness prevails."
If you believe in supporting Jewish communities worldwide, consider allocating your TO funds to India's tiny, yet proud, community, through AHVA.
