Letter of Introduction

Dear Learn-a-Thon Participant,

By choosing to participate in Learn-a-Thon 2003, you are joining a select group of USYers who choose to dedicate themselves to learning. The premise is simple: you learn as much as you can in the weeks leading up to Shavuot, and especially on the night of Shavuot (Thursday, June 5). It is traditional to study all night on the First Night of Shavuot, so feel free to gather your chapter, and enough food and drink to last you through the night. Learn-a-Thon can be a great way to bond for a night, and get in some incredible studying. You also have the option of turning it into a terrific T.O. project by getting pledges for the number of hours you will study.

As in past years, there are 2 Tracks available to you. Track 1 is a fairly straightforward look at the Book of Ruth, chapter by chapter. It is great for those chapters interested in studying the book of Ruth together. You can easily read a chapter of the book, and then use the study questions to mold your discussion. Track 2 works well for those individuals interested in studying Ruth on their own, and includes extended topics, and relates the Book of Ruth to the Torah portions in the weeks leading up to Shavuot.

Whichever track you choose, the Book of Ruth has plenty to offer. So, mark June 5th on the calendar, gather your chapter together, and get ready to participate in Shavuot Learn-a-Thon 2003.

B'hatzlacha,

Josh Nason
