Top 15 Programs
2007 USY Chapter of the Year nominees
Seaboard
- Wet n' Wild Lounge Night – This was an evening of water balloon fights, slip-n-slides, and a dunk tank, and we charged for the program to raise money for Tikun Olam.
- Decorating the Sukkah Lounge Night – This program has become an annual contribution to our synagogue where we work with the clergy to hang up gourds, Hebrew school artwork, and other holiday decorations for Sukkot.
- PB&J Tikun Olam Lounge Night – Our annual program where two tables of USYers compete to see who can create the most peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be donated to the Rockville Men's Shelter.
- Dodgeball Lounge Night – By far our most popular event, we played many rousing rounds of dodge ball in honor of our chapter inside joke, which is based on Will Ferrell movies (Dodgeball).
- CD Auction Lounge Night – USYers created home made CD mixes to be auctioned off for Tikun Olam money, and this year one CD was even purchased for $46!
- Bagel Sales – On select Sundays throughout the year we sold bagels, juice, and other breakfast treats to the kids in the Hebrew School and their parents and all of the proceeds were for Tikun Olam.
- Tikun Olam Calendar – Our chapter created a school-year calendar to sell for Tikun Olam, in which each month featured photo collages of USYers from various events during those months.
- Trivia and Bowling Limo Event – With the help of a generous grant from the Jewish Federation, we rented a limo to take us around to an old age home to play games with the residents, as well as to a bowling alley to have chapter bonding and outreach to new members.
- Ice Skating in D.C. – We took the metro into the city together in order to go ice-skating in Pershing Park, which has a gorgeous view of the Capitol.
- Bedouin tent – We set up our lounge with drapes and pillows to simulate a Bedouin tent, and ate pita made especially by our fanner Shlicha, as well as sipped tea with two other shlichonim from NOAM that came to visit our chapter.
- Freshman Kidnapping – Upperclassmen broke into two teams that went around and picked up freshman and surprisingly kidnapped them, only to bring them back to someone's house for swimming, brunch, t-shirt making, ice breakers, and a fun introduction to USY.
- Beach Shabbaton – We celebrated Shabbat in Ocean City, Maryland, at a beautiful hotel on the water for a weekend.
- Chocolate Seder – We turned Passover into fun by creating a Seder made entirely of chocolate, with a special Haggadah created especially for the event!
- Coin Challenge – This is an ongoing money collection project where Kadimaniks and USYers compete with each other by placing certain coins in either a "Kadima" or "USY" bucket to add or subtract points, with all monies going toward Tikun Olam.
- Five Movie Fundraiser event – We picked five movies and had
members place money in cans to vote for their favorite movie, and in the end,
the winner was Mean Girls which we enjoyed with our usual Wednesday
night dinner.
