2007 USY Chapter of the Year nominees

SWUSY

  1. Kick-off Boat Party – We started the year off with an amazing boat party filled with mixers, food, swimming and tons of fun while meeting our new freshmen!
  2. Shabbat in the Sukkah – AAUSY teamed up with our local BBYO and NFTY chapters and had a joint, teen-ran Friday Night Sukkot service and dinner at the University of Texas' Hillel.
  3. Caps for Kids – AAUSYites learned to knit and were given a month to knit as many hats as they could, after which the hats were sent off to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
  4. Chili Cook-off – AAUSY had not one, but two chili booths at our synagogue's annual Chili Festival, where we cooked meat chili, vegetarian chili, and a TON of fun!
  5. AAUSY's Fall Carnival – On a crisp October night, AAUSY huddled together for games and thrills as we set up carnival-like games, including bobbing for apples and tossing balls into cups, and raised TO money to pie board members!
  6. Bowling for Soup – At this cutely-named event, AAUSYites gathered for a fun-filled evening of bowling, but to come to the event, they had to bring two cans of soup, which resulted in over 120 pounds of food being donated to the soup kitchen in Austin.
  7. Chilaxin' at the Shul – Just in time for studying for finals, AAUSY came together for some yoga and massages as we were taught by a professional massager how to relax and make the most out of our chill time.
  8. Midnight Madness – AAUSYites needed a late-night party, so Midnight Madness, or a games and poker and mahjong night running until midnight, was planned to help everyone get their heads in the game.
  9. Iron Chef – With the help of our wonderful Kadimanicks, AAUSY made various delicious deserts with secret ingredients and no recipe!
  10. AAUSY goes Outback – For this event, we gathered a projector and lots of blankets, and sat outside to watch Ushpizin and eat lots of good Israeli food.
  11. Challah for Hunger – University of Texas' Hillel teamed up with AAUSY to bake loaves of challah, which were then sold to synagogue members, and the money was donated to Mazon, the Jewish response to hunger.
  12. San Marcos Trip – Everyone likes shopping, including the Austin AND San Antonio members of USY, who met halfway (San Marcos) for some fun shopping and scavenger-hunting.
  13. 8s R Gr8 – As every year, AAUSY threw a pool party at the end of the year for our incoming freshmen- and even attacked them with a massive shaving cream fight that is sure to bring many of them back!
  14. Installation Dinner – AAUSY said goodbye to the seniors and hello to the new board as we installed our chapter's executive board and roasted and toasted the graduates.
  15. AAUSY does Schlitterbahn – Like every year, AAUSY met with the San Antonio chapter of USY for a day of incredible fun at America's #1 water park: SCHLITTERBAHN!
