Top 15 Programs
2007 USY Chapter of the Year nominees

Hanegev

  1. Wacky Wednesdays are every Wednesday (with the exception of Yom Tov) where we just snack and relax every other week and do a structured program on the other weeks, such as Sukkah building, Israel Elections, tzedakah box making, Tu B'shevat Seder, self defense workshop, Dreidel Competition, Sweetheart party, Israeli food making, TO Auctions, Teen Leadership Workshop, Teen Drinking and Drugs/Driving Workshop, etc.
  2. Whirlyball is a fun program that we enjoy doing at the beginning of the year and tends to be popular enough to bring out larger numbers in attendance.
  3. Zoo Scavenger Hunt is where we had a picnic lunch, split into teams, and hunted down the answers to the clues.
  4. Project Ezra is where we went to the Jewish Senior Home and lead Kabbalat Shabbat and Oneg for the seniors.
  5. Sukkah Sleepover was when we got together to celebrate Sukkot in the Sukkah that the USYers built themselves at the Wacky Wednesday prior to this event.
  6. 80s Night was a fun party where the USYers dressed in their favorite 80s attire and played Win Lose or Draw, Twister and snacked on Pop Rocks.
  7. Parents' Night Out was a monthly fundraiser where the USYers entertained children from ages 3 months through 8 years old while their parents got a few hours to themselves.
  8. USY and Kadima went to an Atlanta Hawks Game together.
  9. Dad's Garage Lock-In was when everyone got together for dinner, went to see an Improv Comedy Show and ended with a lock-in at the youth house.
  10. Limo Scavenger Hunt is where the USYers kidnap the 8th graders (kidnapped 27 8th graders) and take them on an exciting scavenger hunt all throughout Atlanta in Hummer Limos.
  11. Girls Night Out/Guys Night In is where the USYers bond with their genders while the girls went out for fondue and fun while the guys stayed back at the youth house having a poker tournament.
  12. Purim Carnival is Sababa's largest fundraiser where we raise money from congregants, plan and create the entire Carnival for the congregation, and work the carnival (which had over 400 people show up – double from the year before). 20% of the profit went to TO.
  13. USY Shabbat a monthly program where the USYers attend Saturday morning services, sit together, and have lunch and a discussion or Torah study following.
  14. Battle of the Sexes is a fun program of guys vs. girls where they do physical challenges such as capture the flag, water balloon dodge ball, relay races, pie eating contest, drag contest and trivia competition to see which sex is superior – the girls won, of course!
  15. Mock Wedding was where we had 2 USYers get "married" in a traditional Jewish ceremony, and follow it with a "reception" with snacks and a DJ following. The evening ended with Installations and a lock-in.
