Top 15 Programs
2007 USY Chapter of the Year nominees

CHUSY

  1. Annual BBQ – We start out every year with a barbeque at Beth Judea where we eat, play get-to-know you games, and get pumped for the upcoming year.
  2. Hebrew Dinner – We taught everyone how to say necessary words/phrases in Hebrew and throughout the entire night we could only speak in Hebrew, having to pay 25 cents every time we were caught using English or had to ask eich omreem.
  3. Rachel's Challenge – We learned about Rachel, a girl killed in Columbine, and made a pledge to continue her challenge of a chain of good deeds.
  4. Wheel Chair Hockey – Although this was an unofficial weekly program, our members would attend the local wheel chair hockey game, making sure there were enough people to play and of course cheer on the players.
  5. Shavuot – As a chapter we participated in our synagogue's Shavuot service and study sessions, as well as leading on of the sessions on Kavod.
  6. Limo/Scavenger Hunt – We spent a night in limo's around the Chicagoland area and then ended with a lock-in at Beth Judea.
  7. Bring a Friend Have a Blast – This program encouraged members to bring friends to join BJUSY and each person received a balloon to "pop" with a prize in it.
  8. Mystery Event – We joined another chapter and headed for Whole Foods, where we learned about feeding the hungry and then had a chance to shop for food that we donated to a food pantry.
  9. Sports Night Movie – We asked everyone to bring money for Tikun Olam and then vote for the movie to watch by donating money for Tikun Olam.
  10. Sukkah Hop – We started at our Assistant Rabbi's Sukkah where we had appetizers, walked to Beth Judea's Sukkah for Dinner, and ended at our Hazzan's Sukkah for dessert, and of course at each Sukkah we had a special "Sukkah" program, such as learning about Sukkot, making decorations, and playing Sukkah Games.
  11. Whirlyball – A mix between bumper cars, lacrosse, and basketball, we took a group for an incredible evening to play Whirlyball.
  12. Wall Climbing – BJUSY loves to be active and so for this program we went to a local gym and learned the techniques of wall climbing and then spent an hour climbing a massive wall.
  13. Challah!!! BJUSY – After baking our own Challot and making Challah covers we had a great time learning about the significance and different customs of Shabbat.
  14. Storytime – We meet in the BJUSY youth lounge with PJs, pillows, and stuffed animals, and listened to our members tell children's stories about Israel and Judaism.
  15. Basketball Palooza – BJUSY challenged our Men's Club to a basketball game to raise money for Tikun Olam; although the Men's Club tore us apart, the game was a success as we raised over $200 for Tikun Olam.
