Direct Billing:
Common Questions
- What exactly is Direct Billing?
Direct Billing is defined as a synagogue billing concept where the synagogue
automatically bills members with age-appropriate youths for USY and Kadima
dues, unless a family specifies otherwise.
- How can I implement Direct Billing?
The best way to implement Direct Billing is by presenting it to the Executive
Board of youe synagogue and anyone else who would be instrumental in making
the billing decisions. For tips on how to present, see Presenting
Direct Billing.
- Is Direct Billing successful in other synagogues that have tried this program?
So far, a variety of synagogues have tried Direct Billing across the country and
many successes have been reported. Not only have membership numbers increased
dramatically in those synagogues, but parents and youths alike have had much greater
exposure to Kadima and USY.
- When is the best time to present Direct Billing?
The best time to present Direct Billing is before the synagogue sends out the
invoices for membership dues for next year. For most synagogues, this is any time
from June to August. So, you should start thinking about presenting Direct
Billing in the spring.
- What changes are necessary within the synagogue to implement Direct Billing?
Direct Billing requires the synagogue to augment its billing software to
automatically include Direct Billing for families with age-appropriate children.
Also, a letter should be sent out to explain what Direct Billing is and how the
synagogue will benefit from it.
- Why is Direct Billing important?
Not only does Direct Billing increase membership, but it also makes a statement
to the congregation and the Jewish community. This action means that the synagogue
and the families understand the importance of Kadima and USY, and recognize and
support USY and Kadima as the official youth groups of the United Synagogue
of Conservative Judaism.
