Direct Billing:
Myths vs. Reality
Myth #1: Direct Billing only creates paper members.
- All members start out as paper members. In order to become active in an organization,
you have to be a member first! Direct Billing is the first step. By providing the
chapter with the resources of having many paper members, the chapter can devote its
efforts to the best quality of programs to make these members active members. Direct
Billing provides chapters with a pool of resources before unbeknownst to the chapter.
Myth #2: Direct Billing makes the chapter focus on quantity, not quality.
- The exact opposite is true! With direct billing, the chapter is already provided
with the quantity, and now can devote the entirety of its efforts to quality. This
means better programming for the chapter.
Myth #3: Direct Billing will never work for my synagogue because we are too
small or too big or some other lame excuse.
- Direct Billing has already had great successed at a variety of congregations
around the country. Big and small, from the east coast to the west coast, synagogues
have made direct billing work for their chapters, and have had wonderful results. So,
give it a shot! Direct Billing requires a lot of cooperation to get off the ground,
but the results are tremendous.
Myth #4: Direct Billing is difficult to set up and requires a laborious process.
- Direct Billing requires the cooperation of the synagogue first and foremost.
However, to set up Direct Billing itself, there needs to be an adjustment made to
the billing software. Such an adjustment would automatically bill families with
age-appropriate children. For an example of this, you can look at a sample synagogue
invoice. So, all that needs to be done to set up Direct Billing is a slight change
in the billing software.
