The Small Stuff: Incorporating Israel into all of your Chapter Programs
While it is important to have many Israel programs it is also important to make sure that Israel is part of the daily life of your chapter. Here are some ways to keep Israel on everybody's mind 24/7:

  • Sing the "Shir HaMaalot" section of Birkat HaMazon on Shabbat to the tune of Hatikvah.
  • Sing Hatikvah before each meeting.
  • Teach traditional Israeli songs. (Bashanah Haba'ah, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav, etc.)
  • Have Shabbat kavanah sessions focused around singing Israeli songs.
  • Play Israeli music at your meetings.
  • Make a CD of Israeli Music and sell for TO!
  • Play an Israeli pop/disco/techno/dance song at your Regional/Intercity dance.
  • Hang pictures of Jerusalem in your Youth Lounge.
  • Have a picture of the Kotel on the Eastern side of your youth Lounge to remind USYers why we face east when we pray.
  • Hang an Israeli flag in your Youth Lounge.
  • Set up your Youth Lounge to look like a specific site in Israel.
  • Have Hebrew School children at your shul make Israeli flags for their homes.
  • Place Israeli flags on the table for each meal.
  • Name USY sports teams after Israeli cities.
  • Put a JNF box into your Youth lounge. Use this money to plant trees on Hill 16 (the USY hill of trees in Israel).
  • Encourage members of your shul to plant trees in honor of special event (Graduations, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, etc.).
  • Encourage Bar/Bat Mitzvah students to plant trees in honor of their guests.
  • Serve Israeli chocolate.
  • Purchase computer programs about Israel for your chapter and Hebrew School.
  • Have a library of books about Israel available to your chapter for anyone who wishes to learn more. (Each chapter should also have a library of general Judaic books as well.)
  • Have two clocks in your Youth Lounge; one on your time, one on Israeli time.
  • Put an Israel related theme on your shirts (i.e. Israeli flags, view of Jerusalem, map of Israel, etc.)
  • Purchase Tzahal T-shirts for your chapter.
  • Add the prayer for the State of Israel to your synagogue's services.
