The Israel Update
The key to success regarding Israel Awareness is incorporating Israel within your chapter at all times. It is critical that everybody is aware of things going on in Israel. Whether the news is about politics, music, sports or anything else, the Israel Update is a great way to keep your chapter informed.

What is an Israel Update?

Well, it's pretty simple:

Israel, n. 'iz-rE-al.

  1. Ancient kingdom comprising the lands occupied by the Hebrew people; established about 1025 B.C.; divided about 933 B.C. into Southern & Northern kingdoms.
  2. Country bordering on the Mediterranean; a republic established 1948, capital Jerusalem, area 7993 square miles (20,782 square kilometers), population 4,037,620n.

Update, n. up-dAt.

  1. an up-to-date version, account, or report. Synonym, Israel Minute.

At every chapter meeting, event, program, bus ride, etc., give a brief synopsis regarding Israeli current events, focusing on one or more specific topics. Tell whoever is in charge of the event (your advisor or chapter President) that you have a few words you would like to share with your chapter. Put a few moments aside for the Update.

  • Who?
    YOU!
  • How?
Keep the following things in mind when writing your update:

    Variety
Find many different headlines from Israel and give a brief explanation of each. If there is one particular article that you find crucial, read it in its entirety, but if not just go through the basics. Don't limit yourself to specific news - cover everything (sports, music, politics, economy etc.)

    Stay Positive
While news from Israel recently has been tragic, be sure to find something positive. You want members of your chapter to realize that daily life in Israel is still continuing and that news is not limited to violence and conflict.

    Be Creative
Don't limit yourself to just standing up and reading news. Use your imagination! Bring in pictures from Israeli newspapers or see if you can find clips from Israeli TV news online. At a chapter program you can even have other members of your board pretend they are newscasters and "broadcast" news from Israel for your chapter.
