1950 - The Law of Return
"Every Jew has the right to immigrate to israel."

This message is the heart of the "Law of Return," which was passed on July 5, 1950. The law is based on Chapter 14, Verse 7 of the Book of Psalms: "When the Lord returneth the captivitiy of His people."

In accordance with this law, any Jew who immigrates to israel is automatically eligible to receive Israeli citizenship. To date, this right has been exercised by Jews from 102 different countries.
