Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is the first place where anyone goes ... because that is where the Ben Gurion Airport
is located. It is the former capital of Israel (from 1948-1951). It is also the home of many
incredibly good sports teams, such as the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team, who has won the
Israeli championship 24 times in the last 30 years. It is considered the "Silicon Valley" of
Israel. If you have free time, you can visit Israel's first Prime Minister's house, which is now
a museum, located in the centre of the city.
Today, Tel Aviv is Israel's second largest city (after Jerusalem), with a population of
360,000. The larger metropolitan area comprises a number of separate municipalities that have
expanded and grown into a great urban bloc with Tel Aviv. Over 1 million people live in this
spread - about 1/6 of the population of Israel.
