famous winery is Carmel-Mizrachi which has been producing wine for over 115 years. The winery
produces more than 13 million bottles of wine annually and is Israel's largest grossing winery.
WERE YOU AWARE...
...that Jerusalem's Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue is named after a surprise visit one year from the
prophet? Many years ago the Jewish community in the area had so dwindled that there were no
longer 10 men for the completion of a minyan. On Yom Kippur a 10th man mysteriously showed up and
completed the quorum. After the fast the visitor entered an adjoining room to complete his
prayers and vanished. The community realized that the 10th man was none other than Elijah the
Prophet and the synagogue was named after him.
HAVE YOU HEARD...
...that on October 21, 2003, the "first Arab university in Israel" officially opened in the
village of Ibilin in the Western Galilee? The university will operate as an overseas branch of
the University of Indianapolis. Though described as an Israeli Arab university, it is open to all
students - Arabs, Jews, Muslims, Christians and Druze. Last year, 80 students were enrolled in
courses and Jewish instructors make up about one-quarter of the faculty.
