DID YOU KNOW...
...that during the War of Attrition, Israeli commandos raided Green Island, Egypt's most secure
base in the Suez Canal area? Israeli commandos from Flotilla 13 and Sayeret Matkal, both elite
units, attacked the garrison of around 100 soldiers with only 40 soldiers. In order to avoid
detection as they approached the Israeli commandos swam underwater and approached. However, as
they landed on the beach the Egyptians saw them and a battle began. The raid on Green Island
ended with Israel destroying the infrastructure of the base and severely weakening the morale of
Egyptian soldiers.
WERE YOU AWARE...
...that back in 1999, Israel was included in a European Union Research and Development program,
the first non-European country to be included? This scientific prize allowed Israel to be
included in a $16 billion program. The diplomatic prize was that Israel was the only non-European
country in the program, demonstrating that it has what it takes to be included scientifically.
HAVE YOU HEARD...
...that Israel finished building the National Water Carrier in 1964 to bring water from the north
to the dry south? Most of Israel's water resources are interconnected and unused water is
"recharged" through aquifers and basins. The National Water Carrier supplies a total of 1,000
major consumers, including 18 municipalities and 80 local authorities.
