WERE YOU AWARE...
...that 7% of Israeli high school students drop out of school? Boys are twice as likely as girls
to drop out of school, while Arabs are also more likely than Jews to drop out of school. Arab
boys have one of the highest drop out rates with 14% of students dropping out of school.
Immigrant children from the former Soviet Union had a 13% drop out rate. 69% of Arab vocational
students whose fathers' had less than 8 years of education dropped out of school, compared to 58%
of Arab academic-oriented students with fathers' in the same situation.
HAVE YOU HEARD...
...that the Israel Defence Force's Chaplain General is the military equivalent of Israel's Chief
Rabbinate? The IDF Chaplaincy Corps was founded in 1948 in order to solve halachic problems while
dealing with military conditions, as well as helping with the religious needs of those that serve
in the IDF. All halachic decisions made by the Chaplain General are as binding had they been made
by Israel's Chief Rabbi. The Chaplain General is appointed by the IDF Chief of Staff and is the
advisor to the Chief of Staff on religious matters.
