The Israel Challenge:

About the International USY Israel Challenge:
You are invited to show your AHAVAT TZION, Love of Israel, in the USY Israel Challenge 2006!

What?
The Israel challenge is a competition between the 17 regions to show Ahavat Tzion (love of Israel) through contests and activities. The Israel challenge runs between April and December.

Why?
The Region that wins will receive the prestigious Ahavat Tzion award at International Convention 2006 as well as a $500 scholarship for Israel programs. The region that comes in second place will receive $300 and the region that comes in third place will receive $200. Participating in the Israel Challenge helps you to show your love for Israel as well as earning your region scholarship money for Israel programs.

How?
Throughout the year, your region will participate in five separate challenges. To find out more about these challenges, click on your region’s link below:

Additionally, your region may earn extra Shekalim by:

  • Participating in weekly trivia challenges on the USY and HeChalutzim listserves. (Click here to join the listserves.)
  • Writing Articles for the HeChalutzon.
  • Going on Pilgrimage!
  • Going on Nativ!
  • Joining HeChalutzim!
  • Writing for Ani Zocher: A Pilgrim's Story
  • Submitting Israel programs from your chapter or region.
  • Pointing out media bias against Israel.

We hope you will participate! Check this website, the USY listserve, and the HeChalutzim listserve for information!

B'Hatzlacha! (Good Luck!)

Ongoing Ways to participate in the Challenge:

  • Trivia - Earn Sheklaim for your region by answering weekly trivia questions on the USY and HeChalutzim listserves.
  • HeChalutzon Articles - Earn 10 Shekalim for your region by writing an article for the HeChalutzim Newsletter! (Limit of 2 articles per region per issue.)
  • Pilgrimage Participants - Every region that sends more pilgrims to Israel than in the previous year will earn 15 Shekalim in the challenge.
  • Nativ Participants - For each participant that a region sends on Nativ, the region will earn 5 Shekalim.
  • HeChalutzim members - Join HeChalutzim to get your region Shekalim! (IAs can rhyme!)
  • Ani Zocher stories - For every story that a Pilgrimage participant writes about their experience in Israel, their region will receive 5 Shekalim.
  • Program Submissions - Each month, chapters and regions may submit Israel programs to Aaron that took place in their region or chapter. USYers may write new chapter programs as well. The most creative programs from each month will receive additional Shekalim:

    1st Place: 20 Shekalim
    2nd Place: 15 Shekalim
    3rd Place: 15 Shekalim

  • Recognizing Media Bias - USYers may point out media bias by writing letters to the editors of the newspapers. They must submit the article and a copy of their letter to the editor to Aaron. Each example of media bias that we receive will count for 15 Shekalim.
