USCJ Policy on
Web Advertisements

Congregations, regions, schools, and other member organizations may wish to include advertisements on their web pages in acknowledgement of donated services or as a means of generating revenue.

The USCJ Legal Comittee has stated that they have no knowledge of any law that would prohibit such advertising. However, they caution that all revenue generating income must be reported to the IRS in order to maintain the institution's 501(3)C non-profit status. With this caveat in mind, the USCJ Computer Operations Committee has determined that consistutent organizations may accept advertising on their web pages.

Each organization should consult its accountant or tax advisor before accepting web advertising.

Webmasters and instituional officials should keep in mind that their web pages represent the organization on the Internet and to the public at a large. The primary purpose of the web pages is to present information and educational materials to members, prospective members, visitors, and the community. Therefore:

  • Advertising should be appropriate for audiences of all ages.
  • Advertising which directly or indirectly advocates or encourages violation of the principles of Conservative Judaism is not acceptable.
  • Advertising should make up only a small proportion of the web site's content.
  • Advertisements may include or consist of links to advertisers' existing web pages or a statement of sponsorship with a brief description; however, the advertisers' web pages may not be hosted on the USCJ/JCN server.

Please direct any questions about this policy to the USCJ Department of Information Services.
