Useful Commands for
the Listserver

What follows is a list of very useful commands. Most questions on how to do things with the listserver (turn "digest" mode on and off, subscribe and unsubscribe, etc.) can be found in the following list of commands. To run a command, send an email to listproc@uscj.org with the subject blank (though if your e-mail program forces you to have a subject line, it doesn't matter what's in it) and the command in the body.

  • Command: subscribe [list name] [your name]
  • Description:
Subscribes you to the list list name as your name. Example: subscribe usy josh usyer
  • Command: unsubscribe [list name]
  • Description:
Unsubscribes you from the list list name. Example: unsubscribe usy
  • Command: set [list name] [options]
  • Description:
Sets your options for the list list name. You must be a member of the list list name in order for you to set your options for it. Options include:

    • ack (noack) - sends you a short acknowledgement when a message of yours is posted to the list
    • mail (nomail) - whether or not to recieve mail from the list
    • conceal (noconceal) - conceal your presence on the member list
    • digest (nodigest) - recieve your mail from the list in a "digest" format or not. Receiving it in a digest format will send you a single email each day with all the emails from the list included.

    Examples:

    • set usy ack - this sets the usy list to send you a short acknowledgement whenever you post a message to the list
    • set usy nomail - this sets the usy list to not send you any mail
    • set usy conceal - this sets the usy list to conceal you on the member list
    • set usy digest - this sets the usy list to send you mail in a digest format

  • Command: query [list name]
  • Description:
Displays your options on the list list name. Example: query usy
  • Command: review [list name]
  • Description:
Sends you a list of all the subscribed members of the list list name. Example: review usy
  • Command: help
