Chatting Guidelines
To have good chats, there have to be rules, of course. The basic rules are
very easy to follow... they are:
- Keep it clean, please.
Don't swear or make obscene comments. If you do, you will be kicked out.
- Stay on-topic.
For some chats, there is no set topic and you can disregard this rule;
but for most chats there will be a set topic that people are talking about,
and by barging in and talking about your favorite TV show or computer
game, you are distracting them and making it harder to have a cohesive
conversation. If you repeatedly make off-topic posts and do not contribute
to the conversation, you will be given a couple of warnings and then kicked
out. If you want to talk to someone in the chat about something, please
do it privately.
- Be civil.
If someone makes a comment you disagree with, don't go yelling and screaming
at them. Discuss it, deal with it civilly, but do not attack other people.
Doing so will get you kicked out.
- Don't brag.
We all know your chapter and region are the absolute BEST,
but ours are too! Bragging about your chapter and/or region only serves
to piss other people off.
- Use a descriptive nickname.
Not a rule you have to follow, but it's a good idea, helps everyone
out... if your nick is sExYusyChIcK, it doesn't help anyone identify
you with a real person (which would be you). The idea of the chats is
not only to have great discussions, but to meet other USYers. A name like
Bob_from_Emtza makes it much easier for people to know who they
were talking to if you show up at another chat or meet them at a convention
or a summer trip.
