Help & FAQ

So you need help? Well, we all do! (some of us in other ways than technical help ;)

Hopefully your question will be answered. If it isn't, send us some feedback, and we'll answer your question for you and put it up here.

Q: The chat isn't loading for me. What is going on???

  • A: You might not have Java installed. The chatroom that we use here at USY is Java based; i.e. it won't work if you don't have Java installed. If you're sure you have Java installed, then your security settings might be set too high (yes there is such a thing). Some settings don't allow you to run Java appelets at all, which is what this chatroom runs as.
Q: I got kicked off. What happened?
  • A: The moderator of the chat might have kicked you off. This could be for breaking the chat guidelines, or you might have sent too many messages too fast and the server might have just kicked you off. Give it a few minutes, try again.
Q: It says that my name is registered... what can I do?
  • A: Unfortunately, you can't do anything. If the name you chose is registered, then someone else has registered it and you can't use it unless you know their password, which is unlikely. However, if you check back a few weeks later it might not be registered, because if a nick is not used for 21 consecutive days, the registration expires. You may want to register your nick so that it is yours, then all you have to do is come to the chatroom every once in a while to make sure that the registration stays active.
Q: My name changed to Guest34534. What happened and how can I undo this?
  • A: What probably happened was that the nick you were using was registered by someone else. If you choose a nick someone else has already registered, you have 40 seconds before the name changes to Guest343534 or something like that. To change your nick, simply use the /nick command. You might also want to register your nick so that you can use it again and again and be sure that nobody else will have registered it.
