Production Schedule

2008 Production Schedule
Below you will find information about the tentative themes and article deadlines for Achshav! throughout 2008. If you're interested in writing, you can either register with the Achshav! staff, or contact one of the Editors or other staff listed below.

Volume 57, No. 1 (Spring 2008)

  • Theme: Life is all about changes
  • Article deadline: March 21
  • Distribution date: April 30

This issue will focus on the various changes USYers experience in our teen years and the growth we experience through USY. Possible topics to write about include how spring is a season for change and growth; the change seniors face next year in college, or freshman face as they grow in USY; changing our world through Social Action; change in the Conservative Movement; and more.

Volume 57, No. 2 (Summer 2008)

  • Theme: Our home: Israel
  • Article deadline: May 29
  • Distribution date: July 15

This issue will focus on strong relationship between Israel and North American Jews. Possible topics to write about include how Israel is unique to all other countries; how we learn about Israel and how we advocate on behalf of Israel in North America; the development of the Israel Pilgrimage and Nativ programs; and the parallels between USY and Israels growth over the past 60 years.

Volume 57, No. 3 (Fall 2008)

  • Theme: USY in the 21st Century
  • Article deadline: August 1
  • Distribution date: September 30

Besides being the recap issue for USY's 2008 Summer Programs, this issue will focus on how USY continues to grow through various on-line outlets, including YouTube, Facebook, and more. Even only a few years ago, e-mail and text messaging as ways to communicate between USYers was unheard of. How have these methods affected your USY experience?

Volume 57, No. 4 (Winter 2009)

  • Theme: Our CHOICE: the 2008 election
  • Article deadline: November 1
  • Distribution date: December 30

This issue will provide a general overview and recap of the 2008 United States Presidential Election and look at ways USYers can get active in their communities – on a socially active and politically active level. In addition, the issue will include briefs on prominent Jews in politics and how the U.S. and Canadian political systems operate.

Please note that it takes about eight weeks to layout, print, and mail Achshav! once your articles reach the office. Submit early!
