Summer 2013

June 28, 2013

This morning the group headed to the City of David to learn about the First Temple period. Their highlight was walking through Hezekaya’s Tunnel, a water aqueduct that brought water to the city during the time of King Hezekayah (700 BCE). They had a wonderful time walking through the water! Then they made their way to the Southern Wall Excavation, followed by a visit to the Kotel. Finally, they returned the Fuchsberg Center to prepare for Shabbat. They are very much looking forward to spending their first Shabbat singing, learning, and enjoying it together!

Bus B’s exciting day began with shacharit and learning about the mini Torah they are traveling with this summer. They learned the importance of treating this travel sized Torah with the same respect they would treat a larger one. Then, they were on the road and off to Raleigh! They spent the day touring the awesome Harley Davidson Factory and everyone had a great time. Then in the evening, the group settled in at their hotel and had a ‘sing off’ evening program. It was definitely a fantastic day for Bus B.

Bus C’s morning started off with the ever so popular Amidah slide! It’s a fun and interactive way to chant the Amidah together and show off their dance moves at the same time. Then it was time to say goodbye to Cleveland and hello to Chicago. The group visited Millenium Park and then Navy Pier with a special challenge given by the staff to take a picture with someone wearing a Blackhawk’s shirt. What a fun day for Bus C!

The group  spent their first full day touring different areas of Prague! First off,  they went to the Jewish Quarter and saw many fascinating synagogues such as the Pinkas synagogue, which has the names of those who perished in the Holocaust from Prague all over the synagogue, the Old-new (Alteneu) Shul and the Spanish Synagogue. They also had the opportunity to hear the story about the Golem at the Alteneu Shul and saw where he lived. They had lunch in the Old Quarter followed by a walk to the old town with the castle and a tour of the cathedral. After dinner tonight, the group will participate in a fun and social program to end off the day!

This morning, the group began their day with shacharit in Kraznik followed by a long bus ride to Krakow. In Krakow, they toured the Jewish Quarter and visited two synagogues, namely the Temple Synagogue and Rema. The Rema  Shul is named after Moshe Isserles who wrote the Mapa, the Ashkenazic gloss to the Shulchan Aruch. This evening, the group will split up into their subgroups followed by a fun evening program.
