July 17, 2013

The group enjoyed a creative shacharit this morning before heading to Druze Hospitality. They learned about the Druze culture, religion, and community and then ate a delicious, kosher Druzi meal. It is undoubtedly a food highlight of the trip. They then made their way to Haifa and went to the Baha’i Gardens for a magical view of the city. The group returned to their base for a fun separate boys and girls evening activity.

The group spent their day volunteering with Mitzvah Hero, Danny Siegal. The first half of the day, they volunteered at the therapeutic horse riding center in Raanana, which was a truly enjoyable and meaningful experience! They returned to the Fuchsberg Center for an interesting talk from Neil Lazaraus about Israeli current affairs and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The group began their morning by volunteering and helping to clean up a handicapped path in a park. They then went to the site of the Burma Road which was followed by a wonderful view at  Mitzpe Harel. They sat and had a short lesson of Jerusalem geography and then headed to their next exciting destination- Mini Israel. They returned to their base for a fun evening filled with a bonfire and a Group 3 lip-syncing Idol competition.

The group began their morning at Kikar Rabin, the site of Yitzchak Rabin’s final hours, as he went to a peace rally and was then assassinated. After, they went to the Olympic Museum to learn about the Olympics and Israel’s participation in the Olympic Games over the years. Then they went to Dialogue in the Dark; they were led by an experienced tour guide who was blind, through darkness.. In the afternoon they visited Yaffo, toured around and had some free time to explore the beautiful area. In the evening the group participated in Café Dilema, an extremely fun program run by the staff.

The group headed up north to the Carmel. They went to an overlook in the Baha’i Gardens and saw a beautiful view of Haifa. This was followed by lunch at the Usafia Druze Village where they were hosted to a kosher and delicious Druze meal. It is undoubtedly one of the food highlights of the summer. They learned more about the Druze religion and the unique rules in the small community. They also enjoyed walking through the Druze market. They then went to Kfar Kedem to enjoy some donkey riding and then headed to Kibbutz Hannaton where they will be staying this week.

Bus H had a fun and busy day in New Orleans! In the morning, they did a meditation shacharit, led by one of their staff members, and the Wheelniks loved it! Later, the group went to the famous Mardi Gras World, World War 2 Museum, Café Du Monde, and the aquarium! In the evening, the group received well deserved rest time by hanging out at the pool and having an eicha workshop to prepare for Tisha B’Av.

This morning during davening, Bus H continued their learning of the blessings in the Amidah. During their drive to New Orleans, the group watched Freedom Writers and connected this awesome movie to civil rights since they saw the Civil Rights Museum the day before. Then, they went Shabbat shopping to get everything they need for the upcoming week. Later, the group welcomed Shabbat together and are looking forward to relaxing and bonding. Shabbat Shalom!
