July 25, 2013

The group left Eilat this morning and headed to Kibbutz Sde Boker, where they visited David Ben Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel’s house, followed by a visit to Ben Gurion’s grave which has a beautiful overlook. The group then headed to Kfar Nokfdim, to ride some camels, and enjoy the Bedouin hospitality. There, they will learn about the Bedouin culture and religion, eat some delicious Bedouin food, and sleep in the Bedouin tents. It is undoubtedly an experience they will never forget!

The group had a wonderful  and spiritual start to their morning with shacharit on the beach of Bat Yam. They then returned to Jerusalem and visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. After that, they visited Mount Herzl, which serves not only as the Israel Defense Forces’ official military cemetery, but also as the burial site for prominent Zionists, Israeli politicians, and figures who have greatly influenced the development of the state. They stopped at the graves of Herzl, Yoni Netanyahu, and Michael Levin and heard personal stories form the Israeli staff themselves. This was a very interesting yet emotional experience for them. The group made their way back to the Fuchsberg Center for a funny evening of drama games before another exciting activity- a Maccabia event held filled with great performances at the Sultan’s Pool in Jerusalem.

The group spent their day volunteering with mitzvah hero, Danny Siegal. The first half of the day, they volunteered in Holon at a Children and Parent’s Center where they played with animals and learned about the importance that these wonderful animals have in the repairing, building, and maintaining family relationships. It was a truly an enjoyable and meaningful experience! They returned to the Fuchsberg Center for an interesting closing session led by Danny Siegel, who discussed the other mitzvah heroes and other volunteer opportunities in their home communities. The group will end off their day with another exciting event- the Maccabia event which will be filled with some great performances, held at the Sultan’s Pool in Jerusalem.

The group started their morning at Herzl Museum. It provides a spectacular audio-visual encounter with the visionary of the Jewish State. Then, they visited  Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. After an emotional few hours ,they headed to have some fun plating trees in honor or memory of someone in their lives at a JNF Forest. The group returned to the Fuchsberg Center and will enjoy an exciting night at a big Maccabia Games event filled with some great  performances at the Sultan’s Pool in Jerusalem.

Bus E began their day with shacharit, eating breakfast, and making lunches. When they reached South Carolina, the group went to Myrtle Beach State Park. Then, it was off to MagiQuest! It’s a really fun and imaginative fantasy world that allows the Wheelniks to choose their own adventures and quests, all with a magic wand! Everyone had a lot of fun here. After that, they went back to their hotel for dinner and an evening bonding program. Really fun day for Bus E!

Bus H began their day with shacharit and learning about the Halleluyah prayer. Through their travel from Amarillo to Albuquerque, they stopped at Cadillac Ranch, an awesome site on Route 66 where old Cadillac’s are buried into the ground and covered in decades worth of spray paint. The Wheelniks had to opportunity to leave their mark on the cars as well. When they reached Albuquerque, they spent time at Old Town Albuquerque to shop around and take pictures and then headed for the Rattlesnake Museum. It was also the first official day for Bus H Color War 2013! Tonight’s activity was trying to get the most points during pool races and other fun games. What an awesome day for Bus H!

Bus A began their day at sunrise in the gorgeous Grand Canyon. For shacharit, they each found a spot to daven alone with the beautiful scenery surrounding them. Later on, it was time for a hike and the Grand Canyon Imax. On top of an already amazing day, they concluded the evening by furthering their sichot learning and being in awe at the nature that surrounded them.
