Group 6: Eastern Europe/Israel Pilgrimage

It’s hard to believe Group 6’s summer has come to an end!! We know that Group 6 had an amazing summer and look forward to returning to Israel again soon!

August 2, 2013

The group begun their morning with a final visit to the Kotel, where they davened a spiritual shacharit and spent some time reflecting over their past few weeks here. They then visited the beautiful and modern Mamilla Mall, enjoyed Ben Yehuda Street, and did some last minute shopping for delicious treats from the Machane Yehuda Shuk. They also visited a very cool arts and crafts market before returning to the Fuchsberg Center to relax and prepare for the final Shabbat in Israel. This will be another meaningful Shabbat filled with beautiful singing, learning, davening, relaxing and lots of fun!

August 1, 2013

The group started their day at Yad Lekashish, a non-profit based in Jerusalem that provides employment and social services to over 300 elderly artisans. Following that, they went to the Ramat, which offers a beautiful view of the city. They headed to Jerusalem next, and went toa promenade that overlooks most of Ammunition Hill. In the afternoon, they went to the Knesset and had the opportunity to listen to a former USYer who now works for a politician in the Knesset. He taught the group a little bit about Israeli politics. When that was over, they walked around Mount Herzyl, which serves not only as the Israel Defense Force’s official military cemetery, but also as the burial site for prominent Zionists, Israeli politicians, and other influential people for the state of Israel. The group then returned to the Fuchsberg Center and enjoyed a relaxing evening.

July 31, 2013

The group started their day at Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.They then visited the  Herzl museum, located on Mount Herzl. They learned about Herzl, his dreams and what he stood for. After an emotional yet interesting morning, they headed to go tree-planting in the JNF forest where they had the opportunity to plant a tree in honor or memory of anyone they wished to. They all really enjoyed themselves! In the evening, the group returned to the Fuchsberg Center and were treated to a wonderful, fun evening of drama games where they reflected on their past few weeks in an upbeat and unique way.

July 30, 2013

The group’s first stop this morning in Tel Aviv was Kikar Rabin, the site of Yitzchak Rabin’s final hours, as he went to a peace rally and was then assassinated. Then they had lunch and headed to the Independence Hall, where David Ben Gurion declared Israel an independent country. The group then enjoyed some time in the Arts and Crafts market, Nachalat Binyamin and in the Shuk Hakarmel. Then they went to Dialogue in the Dark; where they were led by an experienced tour guide who was blind, through darkness. The group then returned to the Fuchsberg Center to rest and enjoy a fun evening activity!

July 29, 2013

Today the group continued their desert experience this morning with a pleasant hike to the top of a hill where they davened shacharit and watched the sunrise. They then headed to Tel Aviv and went on a wonderful yet hot tour of Jaffa and spent some time in the shuk in Tel Aviv, Shuk Hakarmel. They then returned to their hotel in Tel Aviv to enjoy a relaxing and refreshing evening after a long yet exciting day!

The group began their morning with a pleasant hike at the canyon in the Negev Desert, Ein Ovdat. They then continued their exciting day with mountain repelling before heading to Mizpe Ramon where they will be doing their Desert Experience. They will be spending the night learning about navigation, survival and enjoying the beautiful nature for the night!
