July 22, 2013
Today the group learned about “New Jerusalem”, which traced the line that was Israel’s border with Jordan before 1967. Their first stop was the Tayelet, which provided a beautiful overview of the Old City. Then they went to Ammunition Hill and walked through trenches which used to be a part of a Jordanian bunker that was the center of battle in 1967. In the afternoon, they walked by the Knesset and learned more about Israeli politics. In the evening, they enjoyed a fun night of Drama games!

The group had an awesome and exhausting day! They woke up at 3:45am to hike Masada and fortunately, they made it up before sunrise! On top of Masada they davened a spiritual shacharit while looking at the beautiful view. After that, they headed to the Dead Sea, painted themselves in mud, and enjoyed floating around in the water! They continued to Ein Gedi where they got to spend some time in the fresh water spring before making their way to the Machhane Yehuda shuk in Jerusalem for some last minute Shabbat shopping. The group spent a beautiful last Shabbat together at the Fuchsberg Center, davening, learning, having fun, and enjoying their last few days together as a group.
The group spent a wonderful morning tree-planting with JNF. Each one of the Wheelniks got to plant a tree in honor or in memory of anyone they wished. They then went to Beit Herzl and learned about the history of the land and also of JNF over time. The group made their way to the southern city of Arad for some free time before heading to the Bedouin tents for some Bedouin hospitality,. It is definitely an unforgettable experience filled with delicious food, learning about the Bedouin culture and community, camel-riding, and a fun bonfire. They had an early bed-time as they will be having a busy day tomorrow!
