July 1, 2013

The group started their morning with a visit to the Acco Prison, where they learned about the prisoners of the underground organizations. Then they headed to Rosh Hanikra and walked through the beautiful grottoes created by the water hitting the rocks for hundreds of years. They continued to a fun hike at Nachal Kziv located in the Western Galilee. It is filled with refreshing springs and running water. In the evening they were given free time at the  northern city of Naharia.  They then returned to Poriya where they will be sleeping tonight, for an extremely interesting evening program.

The group left Jerusalem and spent the morning in the Haifa area. They overlooked the Baha’i Gardens and saw a beautiful view of Haifa. This was followed by lunch at the Druze Village where they were served a kosher and delicious Druze meal, which is one of the food highlights of the summer. They learned more about the Druze religion and the unique rules in the small community. They then made their way to Muhraka, a lookout point of Emek Israel. They then headed to their hostel in Akko where they will be staying for the night and will be participating in a very interesting evening program about minority groups in Israel

This morning the group headed to the City of David to learn about the First Temple period. Their highlight was walking through Hezekaya’s Tunnel, a water aqueduct that brought water to the city during the time of King Hezekayah (700 BCE). They had a wonderful time walking through the water! Then they made their way to the Southern Wall Excavation, followed by a visit to the Kotel. Finally, they returned the Fuchsberg Center to prepare for Shabbat. They are very much looking forward to spending their first Shabbat singing, learning, and enjoying it together!
