USY on Wheels, Bus H (Mission: Mitzvah)

Bus H had a wonderful day in the American Southwest! They participated in a sunrise Shaharit/hike with Bus A and saw some of the beautiful sites around the Grand Canyon. After some nap time and a scrumptious picnic lunch, the group watched the entertaining Grand Canyon IMAX film. Later in the day, the group will have some free time to relax from a long day and they will end with a star gazing evening program before curfew.

Today, Bus H continued their Mitzvah-fueled days by volunteering at the Food Alliance, a meals on wheels type of organization, where the group helped pack various meals for those in need. Following this, they had a wonderful trip to see the sites at Slide Rock State Park. They will end their day at the Grand Canyon to see one of the most beautiful places in our country.

After orienting themselves to the heat of Phoenix, Bus H had another Mitzvah-filled day! They began by volunteering at a project called “Feed the Starving Children,” where they packed 14, 256 meals for needy youth! From there, the group will head to the Challenger Space Museum, where they will learn about our country’s wonderful space program. To cap off their day, the group will stock up on yummy snacks and get ready for a great Shabbat!

Bus H had a long drive today from New Mexico to Phoenix, but it was an enlightening one because of the parsha study they had on the second half. Later in the day, the group headed to the Stuffington Bear Factory, a center that has been open and producing teddy bears since 1959. Following this, the group will get back on the road to their hotel, where they will eat dinner. To cap off their night, the Wheelniks will visit Rawhide Western Town where they will see the old west style shops and go to the petting zoo!

This morning Bus H woke up, davened shacharit and headed off for another mitzvah-filled day! The went out and volunteered at the Road Runner Food Bank. At the food bank they packaged 12, 000 pounds of canned foods and 4800 pounds of granola bars…amazing! The group then visited the International Balloon museum where they learned about hot air balloons. Following this, the group will head to the Rattlesnake museum to see all the cool exhibits. From there, they will head off to get some laundry down and have a delicious meal at the local synagogue. To end their evening, the group participated in a program called, “crossing the street,” which is a type of Macabbiah game that also involved a scavenger hunt!

Today Bus H made their way to Albuquerque, NM. On the way to their destination the group stopped at the Cadillac Ranch, a stop on the side of the road with old Cadillac cars jutting up from the ground which people who pass by frequently sign or spray-paint. After adding their names and some of their own designs the group continued on to their destination. When they arrived, the Wheelniks had time to explore the shops and area of Old Town Albuquerque. In the evening they will head to the Hinkle Family Fun Center where they will ride go-carts and bumper cars and play mini golf and arcade games.
