USY on Wheels, Bus C
July 13, 2012
Today Bus C made their way to San Francisco. On the way they stopped off at the Jelly Belly jellybean factory where they got to try many samples and learned how the delicious candy is made. Later on Bus C had free time to explore Pier 39, Fisherman’s wharf and Ghirardelli Square. In the square many of the Wheelniks tried the famous ice cream and chocolate. The group will later go through their normal pre-Shabbat shopping in Concord, CA and prepare for their Disney themed Shabbat. Shabbat shalom and enjoy the weekend!

This morning Bus C woke up very early and watched the sun rise over Crater Lake. At Shaharit, they did a special learning session on the Ashrei prayer, where they made their own acrostics about praising God. The group then made their way south to Sacramento. Once in California state lines, they stopped in Chico where they had a chance to see the world’s largest yo-yo! The group then continued on to Sacramento. Once they arrive there they will head out to do laundry and eat dinner. Following these activities, Bus C participated in a fun program about youth empowerment where each Wheelnik made a list of things he/she is good at and then made up raps/songs based on those lists. They all had an amazing time and learned a ton about themselves throughout!

Today Bus C made their way to Crater Lake. Before they got started, they all brought their Ipods down for services this morning for a fun and creative Shaharit! On the way to the lake, the Wheelniks visited and had fun exploring the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. When they arrive at the lake they will have some time to walk around and take pictures of the lake which was formed when a volcano collapsed in on itself around 5700 BCE. This will be followed by an interesting Siha, BBQ dinner, and some excellent group bonding. It has been a fantastic day for Bus C!

This morning Bus C finished up their time in Washington. In the morning the group toured underground Seattle where they viewed some of the original city. Next the group visited an alpaca farm where they learned about these interesting animals. The group will finish the day with a visit to Powell’s Bookstore, the largest “new and used” bookstore in the world. There the Wheelniks will be able to browse the shelves for an interesting read (of which there are a great many) and pick up some books for the rest of their bus rides this summer.

After an awesome visit in Spokane yesterday, Bus C headed into Seattle to experience the Pacific Northwest! Their day was filled with visits to the Space Needle, with some great pictures, the Experience Music Project, where they explored a museum that is dedicated to the history and exploration of both popular music and science fiction, and finally at Pike’s Place Market, where they saw the famous throwing of fish! To cap off their busy day, Bus C had a delightful dinner of vegetarian Chinese food-well deserved! The Wheelniks can’t wait to explore the Pacific Northwest later this week!

After a fun but wet night in Yellowstone, Bus C, on their way out of the park, started off their Friday with some meaningful davening. Post davening, the Wheelniks made breakfast and lunch for themselves for the day, and they then continued on to Missoula, Montana, where they will be for the next few days. Bus C cannot wait to spend their 2nd Shabbat together. The theme for this Shabbat is “life is good…on Bus C.” Everyone in the group can, most certainly, attest to that!
