USY on Wheels, Bus C
August 7, 2012
Bus C had a wonderful day that began in our nation’s capital. They started off by touring at the Newseum, a museum dedicated to journalism that explore America’s history in an interactive way. Later, they stopped at the Herr’s factory, where they went on a tour of the facility, where they sampled fresh, off-the-line chips. At the end, they got to peruse the gift shop and buy some tasty treats. Finally, at the end of the day, the group stopped at Hershey Park to meet up with the rest of the Wheels buses and ride some awesome rollercoasters!

Today, Bus C spent the day in DC. In D.C. the group began the day by visiting the National Mall. Later the group explored the Smithsonian museums including the famous Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the Natural History Museum. Afterwards, Bus C visited the National Holocaust Museum and took in the powerful exhibits inside. The group then worked on their signing boards and wrote messages to one another for the end of the summer. In the evening they had a kosher Chinese food dinner before heading out for a fun evening of miniature golf!

Bus C had a lovely day while getting ready for Shabbat in the South. They began by learning more about the Amidah during Shaharit. Later, on their drive to North Carolina, they stopped at Abbott’s Peach Farm, to taste some scrumptious fruit. To cap off their day, they went for their last Shabbat shopping to prepare for their “Under the C” Shabbat. The Wheelniks look forward to being with their friends before spending a meaningful last Shabbat together.

Bus C was really looking forward to today’s activities after completing an exciting Israel evening program last night. Starting off the day, the group headed off to CNN to take the famous shot in front of the big block letters. Afterward, Bus B excitingly relived the 1996 Olympic games at Centennial Park and its Fountain of Rings where they saw an awesome water show. To quench their thirst from all their walking, the Wheelniks then stopped at the Coca-Cola headquarters where they received an awesome tour and most importantly, free samples! Finally, an already great day was capped off with an Atlanta Braves baseball game, relaxing and watching America’s past time.

Today, Bus C spent time in Atlanta. Before they started their sightseeing, they learned about the ever-important but oft overlooked Aleinu prayer during Shaharit. The Wheelniks’ first stop was a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. Museum and grave where they learned about the legacy of this great American and discussed the impact of the civil rights movement. After that important trip, the group headed back to their hotel for an evening program.

Bus C started off their first day in the Big Easy by learning some more, in-depth, about the Amidah…a great educational moment to start the day! Later, they helped out, in a huge way, by assisting at Volunteers of America, helping sort and organize school supplies for their school enrichment program. Later the group check out the always entertaining Bourbon Street to see the craziness of New Orleans, followed by a cool trip to local aquarium. They will end their day with a little bit of laundry to get their clothes fresh for their final week!
