USY on Wheels, Bus B
July 13, 2012
Bus B had a long drive today from the Grand Canyon to Phoenix where they had a chance to play some rocking bus games and get all their energy out before a restful Shabbat. Along the way, the Wheelniks got to stop at a quaint little kosher bakery called Fairytale Brownies, where they saw the actual brownies being made and purchased some! Before arriving at their hotel, the Wheelniks will do some Shabbat shopping, purchasing shabbudy-gifts and snacks for themselves. Bus B is looking forward to a toasty Shabbat in the Southwest!

Today Bus B woke up very early and then headed to the edge of the Grand Canyon to daven Shacharit as the sun rose over the stunningly beautiful canyon. Being Thursday, it was incredibly meaningful to do “Thankful Thursdays” overlooking such an amazing sight. The group then had some free time to rest from the early wake up. Later on, after lunch and sichot, the Wheelniks had a chance to check out the awesome Grand Canyon Imax film, a real cinematic gem! . In the evening Bus B will finish their day with the always impressively beautiful star gazing…there is nothing like it!

This morning Bus B woke up and had an amazing Shaharit service, where they learned about the Amidah as part of their davening. The Wheelniks illustrated and drew their own interpretations of some of the 19 blessings. The group will then make their way to the Grand Canyon. On the route, they worked on their Tefillah goals, with the Wheelniks helping and teaching one another. It was an amazing moment! When they arrive they will have free time and many of them will get their first glimpses of the canyon. Next, the group will have dinner and an group bonding program in the lush natural environment! Bus B will then head to bed early in anticipation of tomorrow’s very early wake up.

Today Bus B made their way to Albuquerque, NM. On the way to their destination the group stopped at the Cadillac Ranch, a stop on the side of the road with old Cadillac cars jutting up from the ground which people who pass by frequently sign or spray-paint. After adding their names and some of their own designs the group continued on to their destination. When they arrived, the Wheelniks had time to explore the shops and area of Old Town Albuquerque. The group will later go to a local synagogue for Minha, Sihot and dinner. In the evening they will head to the Hinkle Family Fun Center where they will ride go-carts and bumper cars and play mini golf and arcade games.
