USY on Wheels, Bus A
July 27, 2012
Bus A drove a little bit North today, out of Texas and into Oklahoma! They made an important visit to the site of the Oklahoma City bombing to pay their respects to the victim of that tragedy. Later, the group will do some Shabbat shopping and get some great gifts for their Shabuddies! The group can’t wait to celebrate their penultimate Shabbat together, as a community!

Today Bus A headed off to the great state of Texas! On the way to their destination the group stopped at the Cadillac Ranch, a stop on the side of the road with old Cadillac cars jutting up from the ground which people who pass by frequently sign or spray-paint. After adding their names and some of their own designs the group continued on to their destination. When they arrive, Bus A will visit the Elkins Ranch in the Palo Duro canyon, America’s second largest canyon. While in the canyon the group will take a Jeep tour, a truly amazing experience! In the evening the wheelniks will check out a performance of the Texas Legacy show which included fireworks, horses and cowboys and told the history of the Lone Star State.

Bus A had a great Yom Superhero today! Each Wheelnik and staff member channeled their favorite superhero or villain using costume and persona and everyone had a really entertaining time! They then headed off to New Mexico after starting their day in costume. When they arrived, the Wheelniks had time to explore the shops and area of Old Town Albuquerque. The group will later go to a local synagogue for Minha, Sihot and dinner. In the evening they will head to the Hinkle Family Fun Center where they will ride go-carts and bumper cars and play mini golf and arcade games.

Bus A started off their day today with a beautiful Shaharit while hiking with Bus H. The downpour that came during their davening only enhanced their spiritual energy. Afterward, the group headed to Flagstaff to participate in a volunteer project that involved the group buying books to be donated to needy groups. They donated nearly 200 books! What a Mitzvah! Following this, in the evening, the group will be having a surprise program that will we fill you in on tomorrow so as to not ruin it!

Bus A had a nice long drive to the Grand Canyon today. On the way, they had informative Sichot in their small groups. Later on, once they get to their sleeping area for the night, the group will participate in the always exciting gender bonding programs. Bus A cannot wait to explore the natural wonders of the Grand Canyon tomorrow!

Bus A has had a great day so far in San Diego. They started off with a creative candy-themed Shaharit service, where they were joined by Jules Gutin, former director of USY! From there, the group headed over to the San Diego Zoo to see some of the most amazing animals in the world! After that, the group will stock up on some yummy Shabbat snacks before a restful Shabbat in beautiful San Diego!
