Bus C started off their day with a rousing rendition of the Amidah version of the Cha-Cha slide! Everyone in the group, no matter the background had a great time learning about the different components of an important prayer. From there, they headed down to Chicago where they had some well-earned free time at Navy Pier, basking in the sunny weather. After the pier, it was off to the huge bean in Millenium Park, where many pictures were taken with everyone’s new friends. A tasty dinner was had at famed Chicago restaurant Ken’s Diner, a real treat! Finally, the day culminated with an awesome scavenger hunt at their host synagogue followed by heading off to host homes for the night.

After tasty bagel lunch in the Jewish quarter. The group walked to Robinson’s arch and the Southern Wall excavations and ended their day at the Kotel. Group 8’s first full day in Europe was spent touring different areas of Prague! First off they went to the Jewish Quarter and saw many fascinating synagogues such as the Pinkas synagogue, which has the names of those who perished in the Holocaust from Prague all over the synagogue, the Old-new (Alteneu) shul and the Spanish Synagogue. They also got to hear the story about the golem at the Alteneu shul and saw where he lived. They had lunch in the Old Quarter followed by a walk to the old town with the castle and a tour of the cathedral. After dinner tonight, the group will participate in a “get to know your staff” program! Everyone is excited to get to know one another and for the summer ahead!

Bus E had a jam-packed first day on the road! They began with a long ride up to Boston that was well worth it because they ended it with a Duck Tour on the water to see all the sites of Boston…some of the Wheelniks even got to help drive! After this long day, the group shared a delicious dinner at their host synagogue in Sharon, MA that was followed by writing letters to themselves that they will receive at the end of the trip. For some fun to end the night, the group made facebook profiles for the pet rocks they made the day before and had a good laugh with each other before some much needed sleep. Bus E cannot wait to get back on the road tomorrow!

Mission Mitzvah had an incredibly fulfilling day that began with a tour and the making of pretzels at the Intercourse Pretzel Factory. Following this, the group headed to Washington D.C. to Project Playtime, a center for homeless children to play, where they “adopted” two of their play rooms and cleaned and decorated them. They ended their evening at their home hospitality synagogue with dinner and the ever-important mitzvah clown training; a skill that will come in quite handy for the rest of the summer!

Bus B started their day off with an amazing opportunity to traverse the Smithsonian museum of D.C., while some other Wheelniks played football on the National Mall! Following this, they spent the next few hours at the Holocaust museum, where, after just two days together, the group came together strongly and really helped one another out. They processed this visit with some meaningful reflection in a writing program. Afterward, they saw Washington D.C. from a different view; on the water on a riverboat. It was such a great opportunity to see D.C. from an angle most people do not get. It was awesome! They capped off their fun night with a visit to the amazing Pump It Up, which is a gym/sports center that has gigantic inflatables on which the Wheelniks released some energy. It was an an awesome activity with which to end the day…the Wheelniks loved it!
