Group 3: L’Takayn Olam

Group 3 started their final day at to Yad Lekashish, a non-profit based in Jerusalem that provides employment and social services to over 300 elderly artisans. Then they went to shuk Machane Yehuda one final time. They headed back to base to pack and prepare for their final banquet dinner. This evening the group came together to share memories of everything they have done this and accomplished on their incredible journey this past summer. At the end of their night they loaded the buses and headed to the airport. We know that group 3 had an amazing summer and look forward to returning to Israel again soon!

The group spent their day learning about Mitzvah and Tikun Olam work with mitzvah hero, Danny Siegel. They began their day at Israel’s National Therapeutic Riding Association (INTRA) which offers therapeutic riding to Israeli soldiers who have been injured during active army service. Everyone had the opportunity to brush, clean, and lead the horses. After eating lunch, they heard from a special lady named Ruth who volunteers as a coordinator for victims of terrorist attacks and therapists. In the evening, the group enjoyed a fun activity similar to the game “Life”.

Today the group spent time in Old Jaffa and got to walk around in the flea market. They went to the beach in Tel Aviv before making their way towards Jerusalem. Once in Jerusalem they went to Shuk Machane Yehuda to buy treats and good before preparing for their final Shabbat together! Shabbat shalom.

Group 3 began their morning at Kikar Rabin, the site of Yitzchak Rabin’s final hours, as he went to a peace rally and was then assassinated. There they learned about Yitzhak Rabin’s life and all of his accomplishments. Their next stop was shuk HaCarmel where they had free time to shop and walk around. From there they went to Nachalat Binyamin, the artists’ fair, in Tel Aviv and to Independence Hall, where David Ben Gurion declared Israel an independent country. They had lunch and a tour of the Olympic museum where they heard stories about the Olympic winners from Israel and their achievements. In the evening they drove to their base for the evening to have free time.

Group 3 continued their volunteering in Kiryat Shmona this morning. They painted railings in the park and fixed benches. Then they went to Banias, which was a fun hike with a lot of greenery and waterfalls. They ate a delicious pizza lunch and headed to a real army base near by Syria! They got to climb tanks and learn more about what it is like to be in the IDF. In the afternoon they went to Katzrin to spend some time in the mall, have dinner and eventually headed to base to enjoy a group bonding program.

Group 3 started their day continuing their volunteer projects; they painted railings and made benches. Then they got to enjoy a pleasant swim at the Kinneret. They had lunch at blue beach and had a blast riding on the donkeys at Kfar Kedem. Then they will back to their base in order to have dinner and then enjoy some free time in Tveria!

Group 3 started their day with a volunteer project in Kiryat Shmona; they built benches for communal gardens in deprived neighborhood. After, they went to Kibbutz Neot Mordechai where they had the opportunity to try on and purchase sandals at the famous Naot factory. Then they had an awesome time kayaking in the Jordan River! In the evening the group had an “army night” where they learned about the tactics of the Israel Defense Forces.
