Today the group learned about “New Jerusalem”, which traced the line that was Israel’s border with Jordan before 1967. Their first stop was the Tayelet, which provided a beautiful overview of the Old City. Then they went to Ammunition Hill and walked through trenches which used to be a part of a Jordanian bunker that was the center of battle in 1967. In the afternoon, they walked by the Knesset and learned more about Israeli politics. In the evening, they had a talent show.

The group spent their day learning about Mitzvah and Tikun Olam work with mitzvah hero, Danny Siegel. They began their day at Leket, an organization that donates food to families and food banks around Israel. Everyone had the opportunity to pick tomatoes which will be transported to organizations serving those in need. After having lunch, they went to Sderot to help at a therapeutic center for children at risk. They helped paint the center and clean up the yard. Then they returned to base to have a closing session led by Danny Siegel, who discussed the other mitzvah heroes and other volunteer opportunities in their home communities. In the evening, following dinner, the group headed to the Lapid event. This event takes place in Modiin, organized by the Jewish Agency. Together with 1500 youth from Israel and the Jewish communities around the world, they celebrated the 152nd anniversary of Herzl and enjoyed a performance by various Israeli musicians and dancers such as Tararam. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Group 1 left Eilat this morning and headed to Kibbutz Ketura. Once there, they got the opportunity to learn about what it means to be on a kibbutz, took a tour of the area, learned about the various industries and initiatives that were formed on the kibbutz and more! They participated in a mock kibbutz trial game in order to gain a better understanding of how a kibbutz functions: the different dilemmas that arise and how to function as a unit, as a family. Then they had lunch followed by a nice dip in the pool in the kibbutz. In the evening they made their way back to Jerusalem where they had the opportunity to hear from Neil Lazarus who talked to everyone about the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Today the group had an exciting and fun day in Eilat! First they went to the underwater observatory in the aquarium where they saw sharks, tortoises and an assortment of fish. They had a delicious lunch in the Hallelujah restaurant followed by a little time to relax. Then they had the exciting opportunity to snorkel and observe the sea landscape in the Red Sea (which is in fact blue). After, they returned to base to get ready for an evening out on the tayelet.
