USY on Wheels, Bus E (East)

Monday, July 18th

Today Bus E left Jacksonville for Savannah. When they arrived they went on a tour of the city and their guide explained the history of the city’s shipping industry and pirate connections. The group then had lunch in Ellis Square and had the chance to check out the shops in the area. Later on Bus E split up into 4 groups and did a scavenger hunt around the city before returning to their hotel for dinner. Finally, the group ended the day by going out on an evening ghost tour.

Sunday, July 17th

After a great Shabbat, Bus E went out to see the new Harry Potter film on Saturday evening. Today the group woke up and had a creative yoga shacharit with a special guest from the USY office, Amy Dorsch. The group then boarded a ferry to Little Talbot Island State park where they toured the park and had a delicious lunch. The wheelniks then volunteered by helping clean up the beach. In the evening they travelled to the Jacksonville Jewish Center where they had a pool party, played basketball and had a dine-in movie night.

Friday, July 15th

This morning Bus E drove over to St. Augustine, FL. In the morning they visited the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum where they learned about bizarre and weird facts for all around the world. The group then had lunch in a nearby park. Later, Bus E visited the Potter’s Wax museum, the first wax museum in the country. The group then continued their ride to Jacksonville and worked on their tefillah goals along the way. Bus E then went through their normal pre-Shabbat routine and prepared for their Tropical themed Shabbat. Shabbat shalom and enjoy the weekend!

Thursday, July 14th

Today Bus E traveled to Daytona. When they arrived they hung out and played on the beach. The group then ate lunch and visited the Daytona Speedway where they took a tour of the track where the famous Daytona 500 race is held. The group then toured the Angel and Phelps chocolate factory and enjoyed some free samples. In the evening they checked into their hotel, had dinner and then finished the day with an evening program.

Wednesday, July 13th

This morning Bus E headed to their host shul and davened shacharit there. Then the group spent the day at Universal Studios Island of Adventure. In the park the wheelniks had tons of fun in the Harry Potter World section. Many of the wheelniks also visited the Dr. Seuss themed section of the park and rode the roller coasters at Superhero Island. The group is having a great time at the theme parks in the Orlando area.

Tuesday, July 12th

Today Bus E got up early for what is one of the most fun days on Wheels: Disney Day! Bus E had a fantastic day with Mickey and Co. as they rode the rides and experienced all the fun in the Magic Kingdom. After a long day the group returned to their home hospitality hosts for the evening.

Monday, July 11th

Today Bus E made the drive down to Florida. On part of the ride they watched Finding Nemo and had a discussion about being different and respecting diversity. Next, they visited the Florida Museum of Natural History and saw the butterfly rainforest. The group then continued their ride and, when they arrived in the Orlando area, they headed to a local synagogue for a delicious burrito dinner. Bus E then met up with their host families for the evening.
