Summer 2011

Tuesday, June 28th

On Tuesday, Bus C set off on their six and a half week journey. In the morning they learned about the shacharit service and the prayers they will say each day. Their first stop was in Amish country where they visited a local pretzel factory. There, the wheelniks had the chance to make their own pretzels. They then traveled to Hershey, PA where they had a tour of Hershey’s Chocolate World. In the tour they loaded up on treats and learned about all of Hershey’s amazing candies. With plenty of chocolate in their stomachs and some more in their bags for the journey ahead, Bus C continued on to Pittsburg. On the bus ride the group spoke a little bit about Hachnasat Orchim, the mitzvah of welcoming in guests. When the group arrived at their host synagogue they ate dinner and had an evening program before meeting their host families and splitting up for the night. Tuesday was a fantastic start to the summer of a lifetime!

This morning Bus D woke up and each member davened shacharit on their own. Afterwards, the bus stopped in the Wisconsin Dells where they went on a duck tour which took them on land and through the water in a vehicle that is both a truck and boat. Next, the group spent the afternoon at the Mt. Olympus Water and theme park where they splashed around in the pools, rode waterslides and roller coasters and hung out. Later, they continued their ride to Minnesota. On the ride, they watched the movie the sandlot and worked with one another to learn how to lead the group in a particular prayer (what USY on Wheels calls tefillah goals).
