Friday, July 22nd

Today the group spent their morning in the mystical city of Tzfat. Among the many people who came from Tzfat are the prominent kabbalists, Isaac Luria and Moshe Kordovero. Besides the kabbalists, Tzfat also attracted numerous other Jewish scholars and spiritualists, including Joseph Caro, the author of the Shulchan Aruch and Shlomo Halevi Alkabetz, composer of the shabbat hymn Lecha Dodi. The group had a tour of the city, synagogues, and had an opportunity to go shopping at the famous candle factory. Then they returned to Hannaton to prepare for Shabbat. The group will be spending Shabbat with group 7. They are excited to have a day for rest and relaxation. Shabbat Shalom!

Friday, July 22nd

This morning the group had a group activity at the Fuchsberg center prepared by their staff and then walked to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. They ended up at the Kotel, the Western Wall. After lunch the group continued to Ben Yehuda St. and to Mahane Yehuda open market to buy goodies for Shabbat. They headed back to their home in Jerusalem, the Fuchsberg center, to prepare things for their final Shabbat together. They will be spending Shabbat with groups 4, 6 and 8. Tomorrow they will spend the day in Tfilot, resting, learning Pirkei Avot, and hanging out. Shabbat Shalom!

Thursday, July 21st

This morning Bus E had another great day. In the morning the wheelniks davened shacharit and several of the wheelniks met their tefillah goals by leading different parts of the service. The group then went to Richmond where they visited one of the branches of the Federal Reserve. There, they learned about the bank’s role and were each given a gift bag of $100…shredded! The group then went to their host shul where they were treated to an Israeli style dinner. Finally, they went to one of the congregant’s homes for a pool party.

Thursday, July 21st

Today Bus G left Denali and drove towards Fairbanks. On the ride they saw the Alaska Pipeline and learned about its history. Next, Bus G visited the Ice Museum where they saw ice sculptures and an ice carving show! The group then went on a river boat cruise which took them by some interesting sites and taught them more about Eskimo life and survival in the Alaskan wilderness. Finally, the group arrived at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and then went out to do their laundry.

Thursday, July 21st

This morning Bus H hit the road early for the long drive to San Francisco. On the way they watched the film Freedom Writers and worked on their tefillah goals. The group then stopped off at the Jelly Belly jellybean factory where they got to try many samples and learned how the delicious candy is made. In the evening they checked into their hotel and had an evening program.

Thursday, July 21st

This morning Bus C enjoyed a late wake up. After breakfast the group made the drive north to Anaheim. On they way they watched the film Angels in the Outfield and then went out to the ballpark to see the Angels take on the Texas Rangers. After celebrating an Angels victory, the wheelniks dove back to LA and had dinner at an Israeli restaurant on Pico boulevard. In the evening the wheelniks had free time to explore the boardwalk at Santa Monica Pier.

Thursday, July 21st

This morning Bus A davened and then loaded the bus with supplies they will need for the remainder of the summer. The group then visited the Skirball center where they saw exhibits about jewish magicians including Harry Houdini. Bus A then had free time at the beach before heading back to another restaurant on Pico for dinner. In the evening the wheelniks had free time to explore the boardwalk at Santa Monica Pier.
