Outdoor Adventure: Pacific Northwest
In the beginning, the world was empty. And then God created the Earth and God saw that
it was good.
This summer, challenge yourself with USY.
Discover the wonder of the Pacific Northwest on a 4-week camping trip with USY while
hiking, sight-seeing, and sea-kayaking. Learn how to live a Jewish lifestyle in the
great outdoors.
Based in the Seattle area, participants will hike through the forests of Mount Rainier
National Park, explore the caves at Mount St. Helens and enjoy the experience of a week-long
sea-kayaking trip in Puget Sound. Each day promises a new adventure and challenge. Each
night will bring tranquility and friendships as we gather in tents under the Pacific
Northwest sky.
Through this program, the participants enrich and develop their awareness and
appreciation of Conservative Judaism. For the length of the program, all participants
observe Shabbat and Kashrut, participate in daily prayers, and learn about Judaism and
the Environment. This unsual melding of Jewish education and observance and the physical
experience of the adventure adds up to the type of growing and learning experience for
which USY has been known for over 50 years.
The enthusiastic Outdoor Adventure staff have a combination of camping and hiking
skills as well as a strong background in Jewish environmental education. The group staff
is trained in Wilderness First Aid, Lifeguard Training, camping skills and are talented
Jewish educators.
