Spring Semester
Kehilla/Community Service Option

Nativ Kehilla participants have the unique opportunity to live and work in a developing community in Israel. The students identify first-hand with the life of Israelis as they work with native Israelis as well as new immigrants from dozens of countries from around the world. Nativers work in a variety of jobs and spend time creating and organizing programs for their neighbors, with whom they often form remarkable relationships. In Some communities Nativers get involved with the Masorti (Conservative) congregations of the area. Nativers have worked with the youth at the local synagogue, read Torah on Shabbat and holidays, and chanted Megillat Esther on Purim. A wealth of opportunities and unforgettable experiences await all Kehilla participants.

Community Service Volunteer Options

  • Magen David Adom: (Volunteer Ambulance Corps). Nativers take a Magen David Adom course qualifying them to volunteer several days a week with the community's ambulance corps.
  • Schools: Nativers work with the English teachers in the community schools to help students learn in a more informal and personalized environment. Warm relationships often form between the Nativers and the students, each one learning from the other.

  • Clothing/Food/Item Pantry: This job allows Nativers to be involved in true acts of Tzedakah. As people donate goods, food, furniture, and more, Nativers help to ensure that these items reach the needy families in the region.
  • Mentally/Physically Disabled: Nativers help the mentally and physically disabled by assisting them in their jobs for local businesses and planning special programs for them.
  • After-School Programming: In this job, Nativers contribute to their host community by working with the children who live with them in the absorption center. They form close relationships with the children and learn first-hand how families adjust to living in a new country.
