Ani Zocher: Pilgrims' Stories
Spain/IP 2003,
by Jared Zaifman, ECRUSY
Before going on our first hike in the Golan, we got to make a visit to the Druze, and the
hospitality which they offered was like none I have ever experienced. They sat 5 people down per
table and then proceeded by bringing out gigantic plates of incredible food, which I have only
tasted in Israel. The food just kept coming and coming and I was encouraged to keep eating, and
until I was full, the food would not stop coming. This experience showed me the truth about a
part of the culture which, was the fact that wherever I go in Israel, and all the people there,
are so accepting and hospitable and it made me feel at home. Israel is AWESOME!
One of the most significant experiences I had in Israel occurred when we were touring the old
city. Our group was with a tour guide (can't remember name) and he told us to close our eyes. We
all then locked hands and started to walk not knowing where we were going, only being able to
hear the story of the liberation of Jerusalem. Once we got to a point where we could see the
Kotel, we opened our eyes and it almost felt like you could really experience the feelings felt
by those who were in the battle of the liberation of Jerusalem.
