Ani Zocher: Pilgrims' Stories
Spain/IP 2003,
by Ben David, Pinwheel
One day in Safed - we were walking through all of the shops and all of the stores. Being asked
to come in, see the wares. I saw a few people in the Safed Garb, a few people wearing all white.
It was one of the coolest days. But the coolest part of the day was getting the food.
We walked back to the bus and we were told "FIFTEEN MINUTES!" So we went exploring, until we
came upon this nice little stand, a FALAFEL stand. Literally the best falafel of my life was
melting in my mouth within 3 minutes. How cool was this? Eating FALAFEL in ISRAEL. THIS WAS SO
AWESOME!!!
And on to my next cool experience...
Free weekend - Summer of 2003
Ben David travels by car with his distant cousin to Moshav Avigdor. He explains how he fought
in the war of independence and points out the hills he helped to capture as we leave the city of
Jerusalem.
That Saturday night, after a relaxing day of sitting at the pool, eating ice cream and
listening to tons of Hebrew music, I had no way of comprehending, it was time to head to the
sport court. Joining along with about 7 other guys, we played the best 4X4 of my life. It was a
trashy court in the middle of Israel, and these guys were all giving directions in Hebrew. It was
total chaos, but it was a small hoop so I got to slam dunk - SLAM DUNK IN ISRAEL, it was awesome.
