Ani Zocher:
Pilgrims' Stories

Eastern Europe/IP 2004,
by Adam Zarek, ECRUSY

There is one event from my summer that left a real mark with me. Our only day in Tel-Aviv we awoke early and headed out to Ben-Gurion Airport at 5:00 am. When we arrived at the airport we joined hundreds of other people to welcome 300 new olim to Eretz Yisrael. We sang and cheered and danced as these new olim stepped off the plane from the United States and took their first dozen steps in their new home. Being there to welcome these 300 people as they start their life up in Israel was an unbelievable experience. Being able to see these people that live the dream of almost every Zionistic Diaspora Jew, to just stand up and move to Israel. It was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had to be there as these 300 Jews left what they had for their new home.
